WHAT IS SIGNATURE SOCCER?
Each year many soccer families are faced with a dilemma: continue playing recreational soccer or make the big jump to competitive soccer. For those recreational players that have developed a higher level of soccer skill and competitive play, the natural progression is to make the jump to club soccer. However, this jump requires a family making a sizable commitment in terms of time as well as financial resources.
Over the years, there has been an interest in providing an opportunity for young players to play soccer at an intermediate level, between recreational play and the highly committed level of club play. This is where Signature Leagues come in. The objective of the Cal South Signature League is to provide an intermediary playing level that better prepares players, parents and coaches for the transition from recreational play to competitive club play.
Signature Leagues are "localized" playing circuits formed by nearby recreational leagues. There are a number of rules that are unique to the Signature League such as a 50% play rule for all players, a limit on the annual financial responsibility of the players, and a limitation on distance of travel.
Signature soccer is part of CYSA and therefore all children are required to register with CHSA as do all other players that play in CHSA Soccer. If your child is selected to play on one of the Canyon teams there will be additional fees that will be paid directly to the team administrator and recorded with CHSA Soccer.
The players are selected though a try-out session held in March. Practices begin on July 15th, and games start in September and end in December. The games will be played on one of the CYSA-S North Orange County League’s fields.
Signature soccer is designed for the age brackets of both boys and girls under 9 up to the age group of under 14. CHSA attempts to have teams in each age bracket for both boys and girls each year never to exceed ONE team per age division.
